ACTIVITY PLAN

Activity Plan for the Fiscal Year 2001
(From April 1, 2001 to March 31, 2002)


1. Research and Study

(1) Research Committees
 
  GISPRI will organize a research committee for each theme listed below, and conduct research and survey.
 
(i)   Research Committee for Poverty Problems and Global Governance 
(ii)   Research Committee for Education, Welfare, and Economic Strategies - Japan's Choice in the Aging Society with Less Children
(iii)   Research Committee for Global Warming Mitigation  - Aiming for the Consensus Building with Developing Countries
(iv)   Research Committee for the Emission Reduction Accounting and Verification Problems 
(v)   Research Committee for the Impact of IT Revolution on Environmental Issues 
(vi)   Research Committee for Economic Globalization and NGO

(2) Research and Study Consignment
 
  GISPRI is to request a private research institute to conduct the following research under consignment.
 
(i) Research of the effects of IT revolution on environmental issues

(3) Consigned Research and Study
 
  Under the consignment from the Government of Japan and other public and private organizations, GISPRI shall conduct research and study on the subjects listed below:
 
(i)   Review and study of policies and measures addressing global warming (for FCCC) 
(ii)   Project of climate change impact assessment (for IPCC)
(iii)   Program to support activities at international conferences, including IPCC meetings
(iv)   Study of Activities Implemented Jointly in China 
(v)   Study of how to design international emission trading market system 

2. Policy Recommendations

Based on the result of research and study, GISPRI shall submit comprehensive policy proposal on issues related to global industrial and social progresses, through the discussion at the Global Industrial and Social Progress Committee.

3. Joint Studies

GISPRI shall continue its cooperative relationships with international and national research institutes (including World Resource Institute (WRI), Resources For Future (RFF), European Institute of Japanese Studies (EIJS), Stockholm Environment Institute (SEI), etc.). In addition, we shall participate in the "China International Cooperation Council Committee for Environment and Development" in continuance from the fiscal year 2000, and conduct joint research and study with them.

4. Hosting Symposium and Seminars
 
  Following seminars and symposium will be held.

  (i)Seminar on the Global Warming Mitigation - Consensus Building with Developing Countries
(ii) Workshop on Climate Change

[e-Forum]
  GISPRI will open its research activities worldwide as an e-Forum on its web site (www.gispri.or.jp) to exchange opinions with broad public.

5. Information Collection and Presentation

GISPRI collects and analyzes information related to global industrial and social progress, and disseminate the information as follows.
 
(i)   Providing the reports of GISPRI's research and survey
(ii)   Publication of "GISPRI Newsletter" (in Japanese)
(iii)   Workshops for members to provide information and discuss views on the latest news and current situation of global environmental problems
