The Projects to Succeed and Develop the Basic Philosophy of the EXPO 2005

1. The Aichi Expo 2005 Management Project

Trademark Management Project

a) Brand management
The Expo 2005-related symbols or registered trademarks were handed over to GISPRI from Japan Association for the 2005 World Exposition.

  • Section 10-110, registered at Japan Patent Office
  • Three trademarks registered internationally through The World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO)
  • One trademark registered at Chinese Trademark Office, State Administration for Industry and Commerce (CTMO)

These trademarks include: “Morizo and Kiccoro,” the official mascot character (names, symbol images, nickname logotypes) and all related symbol marks, logotypes and the name of the Expo 2005 “Love the Earth EXPO.”

b) Licensing of trademarks
Our trademark licensing services are conducted in accordance with standards set by the review committee. We grant licenses free of charge for non-commercial events with pro-bono purposes, while onerously for commercial uses. Our license approval services initially outsourced to the Aichi Expo Master Licensee Office (AMLO) in ITOCHU Corporation are currently conducted by the MLC (Moricoro License Center) in Nagoya Office, GISPRI as of April 1, 2009.

c) Approval for on-stage appearances of Morizo and Kiccoro
In accordance with the standards set by the review committee, we reviewed and authorized Morizo and Kiccoro’s on-stage appearances as appropriate as part of our brand management efforts. The approval process originally conducted through the AMLO was relegated to the MLC (Nagoya Office, GISPRI) as of April 1, 2009.

d) Management and rental services of official photos and video images
GISPRI controls and manages still and video images of the Expo 2005, Aichi Japan. An official pictorial report of the 2005 World Exposition, Aichi, Japan was published to include 1,279 official photos. In addition, 90-minute official documentaries were recorded in both DVD and VHS formats and stored in Chūbu branch office, NHK PlanNet, INC. Likewise, 1,045 high-definition video footages (20 minutes for each) recorded in HD-CAM tapes were archived in the same facility. As part of our copyright control, these official photos and official documentary video footage were rented out for specific uses that were reviewed and approved under our rental guideline.
