BUSINESS PLAN

GISPRI's Business Plan for Fiscal Year 2000
(April 1, 2000 to March 31, 2001)

GISPRIユs counsels and board convened in March 2000,
and adopted the Business Plan for Fiscal Year 2000 as stated below:



1. Research and Survey

(1) Research Committees

GISPRI is to organize the following research committees with designated themes and to carry out studies and surveys.

(a) "Global Governance---Coordinating globalization and diversification---" Research Committee
(b) "ASEAN in transition and Japan" Research Committee
(c) "Overall prospects on Asia" Research Committee
(d)"Education and human resource development in the age of competition in the global market" Research Committee
(e)"An auditing system for green-house gas emissions under CDM" Research Committee
(f) "International consensus building in economic development and global warming issues" Research Committee

(2) Research and survey consignment

GISPRI consigns to a private research and survey institute to implement a "Research on Garden City Country Scheme. "

(3) Consigned research and survey Under the consignment from the Japanese Government and other organizations, GISPRI performs research and survey on the following subjects:

(a) Review and survey of global warming mitigation measures
(b) Project of basic survey and study on the efficiency improvement of energy consumption in developing countries
(c) Survey of AIJ (Activities Implemented Jointly) projects in China
(d) Project to assess the climate change impacts (IPCC)
(e) Study of designing an international emission trading system

(4) Research and survey with the funds from other organizations

GISPRI conducts a survey on mutual exchange between US and Japan, with the financial support of the American Center.

2. Policy Proposal

Based on the research and survey conducted under the programs described in section 1, GISPRI formulates a comprehensive policy proposal on global industries, and cultures, through discussion at the Global Industrial and Social Progress Committee.

3. Joint Research

GISPRI continues to maintain its mutual cooperative relationships with international and domestic research institutes including the World Resources Institute (WRI), Resource for Future (RFF), European Institute for Japan Study (EIJS), and Stockholm Environment Institute (SEI). In addition, it conducts a joint research and survey with the "China Council for International Cooperation on Environment and Development", and participates in their meetings.

4. Seminars and a Symposium

GISPRI holds the following seminars and a symposium

(1) Seminars
(a) A Workshop on Climate Change
(b) The Washington Seminar to promote mutual understanding between USA and Japan.
(c) A Seminar on the consensus building in economic development and global warming mitigation.
(2) Symposium
A symposium on "the changes in ASEAN countries and the role of Japan"

5. Information gathering and offering

GISPRI gathers and analyzes the information on global industries and cultures, and disseminates information through the following media.

(1) Publication of reports etc. on GISPRIユs research and survey activities
(2) Publishing of journals, GISPRI Newsletter (in Japanese), and "GISPRI" (in English)
(3) Providing information through its web site
(4) Providing information through the hosting discussion meetings (with businesses) on global environmental issues
